The Seven Deadly Sins Is Getting Its Own Open-World Game

An open-world action game based on the anime property The Seven Deadly Sins will be released for consoles, PCs, and mobile devices.

Since its publication in 2014, the manga series The Seven Deadly Sins has become a successful product. The show has been a highlight on Netflix, ranking as one of the most popular anime on the platform. It's no surprise that a series as popular as this has spawned a slew of video game adaptations of the source material. Some are straightforward retellings of The Seven Deadly Sins anime, such as Bandai Namco's The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia for the PlayStation 4, while others are similar to the mobile game The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross.

Korean game firm Netmarble, which also created the aforementioned Grand Cross, has announced a new game based on The Seven Deadly Sins. The Seven Deadly Sins Origin will be a sequel to Netmarble's mobile game, where instead of being limited to a turn-based RPG, it will be expanded to include a big overworld to explore and a new protagonist.

The game will have an open environment with a number of playable characters from the manga and anime, including several of The Seven Deadly Sins' key protagonists. Meliodas, Merlin, Diane, and Elizabeth are all playable characters in the trailer. The settings are varied and colorful, complementing the anime aesthetic, much like previous open-world games like Genshin Impact or Breath of the Wild. This is demonstrated through Meliodas as he rushes through a field in the rain or dives underwater to uncover hidden treasure.

In both combat and the overworld, members of The Seven Deadly Sins can be spotted assisting. Merlin, for example, may unleash dark spells to ward off attackers, and Meliodas might summon Diane to form a pillar to aid him in reaching new heights. Other gameplay concepts revealed in the trailer include a stamina meter while clinging to a rock wall or gliding.

Because this game is a sequel to The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross, Netmarble describes it as having an original plot that expands the franchise's multiverse. This includes introducing a new protagonist, Tristan, as he explores the time-and-space-warped continent of Britannia. The Seven Deadly Sins Origin also appears to place a strong emphasis on exploration and action, as evidenced by the characters' ability to move throughout the world.
