Monsters, the next anime from the creator of One Piece, now has a Netflix release date and verified runtime.

Monsters, also known as 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation in English, will be released on Netflix on January 21, 2024, with a duration of only 25 minutes, according to a recent appearance on the anime's homepage. The anime will be unique on Netflix in that it will just have one episode and is based on a one-shot manga by the renowned Eiichiro Oda. The manga was first published in the Shonen Jump Autumn Special in 1994, and it was then reprinted as part of a pre-One Piece compilation tale book in 1998. Monsters Manga predates its more famous and long-running cousin by three years, as the One Piece manga was originally published in 1997.

In a captivating narrative twist, Shimotsuki Ryuma, the fabled Samurai of Wano from Oda's 'One Piece', emerges as the protagonist in the new anime 'Monsters'. Known as the 'Sword God', Ryuma's exploits, from his dragon-slaying heroics to his formidable swordsmanship, have cemented his legendary status. This story, set centuries before the current 'One Piece' timeline, delves into the rich legacy of the Shimotsuki Family, bridging past and present through Ryuma's direct descendant, the fan-favorite Roronoa Zoro. This anime offers a unique chance to explore Ryuma's storied past, expanding the lore of 'One Piece' in an intriguing new direction.
