‘Spice and Wolf’ will be getting a brand new anime!

A new anime adaptation of the Spice and Wolf light novel series is in the works.

A key visual and a video concluding with the announcement of the anime have been released.

There are currently few details on the project, other than the anime being described as "completely new."

Isuna Hasekura wrote the light novel series, which is published by Kadokawa under the Dengeki Bunko label, and Juu Ayakura illustrated it. It began in 2006 and will end in September 2021 with 23 volumes.

The life of a traveling merchant is a lonely one, a fact with which Kraft Lawrence is well acquainted. Wandering from town to town with just his horse, cart, and whatever wares have come his way, the peddler has pretty well settled into his routine-that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess asleep in his cart. Taking the form of a fetching girl with wolf ears and a tail, Holo has wearied of tending to harvests in the countryside and strikes up a bargain with the merchant to lend him the cunning of “Holo the Wisewolf” to increase his profits in exchange for taking her along on his travels. What kind of businessman could turn down such an offer? Lawrence soon learns, though, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be a bit of a mixed blessing. Will this wolf girl turn out to be too wild to tame?

An anime adaptation of the Spice and Wolf light novels was previously released in 2008.

In 2009, a second season was released.

Both seasons were directed by Takeo Takahashi (Wasteful Days of High School Girls chief director, Citrus) and written by Naruhisa Arakawa (Let's Make a Mug Too series composer), with character design by Toshimitsu Kobayashi (Love of Kill sub-character designer) and animation production by IMAGIN.

Ami Koshimizu played Holo, and Jun Fukuyama played Lawrence.

In addition to anime, light novels have inspired video games and a manga adaptation.

Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf, a sequel series starring Holo and Lawrence's daughter Myuri, debuted in 2016 and later received its own manga adaptation.
