Many mangakas have taken it to twitter to voice their thoughts about Gege Akutami, the mangaka of the manga ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ going on hiatus.

Manga artist Mengo Yokoyari (Yorimen) known for ‘Scums Wish’ tweeted the below:

I understand that it is impossible not to take a hiatus from time to time at the start of a new serialization due to Jump’s fast turnover system. But as the weekly serialization continues, there are some cases where stagnation continues, and conversely some cases where the pace becomes comfortable. Some people get used to it, and it really depends on the person, so it is difficult to have a uniform system, so it is best to have them respond flexibly.

‘Ken Akamatsu’ mangaka of Mahō Sensei Negima, UQ Holder!, Love Hina talked about how amazing it was to see the editorial departments proposal to introduce hiatuses like this.

Jump is a lot of work for manga artists because there is no swimsuit gravure cover like Weekly Shōnen Magazine and Sunday. In addition, the magazine had a regular suspension system for a long time. And there was an atmosphere like “it is not allowed to rest” in Jump, and to have the editorial department propose “a cohesive suspension” like this time is wonderful.

Yokota Takuma, mangaka of ‘Onanie Master Kurosawa’, ‘Kemono no Joou’, ‘Shuudan!’ had the following to say about the issue.

About the “you cannot take a break”atmosphere, it’s more like you’re just afraid to take one.

In this era, it isn’t that much heard of for editors to force the artist to keep drawing against their will. I don’t think it’s there anymore, atleast in my opinion.

If there is a person that says “That’s not true! I’m forced to draw!” then I’m sorry.

This practice wasn’t there in the magazines that I’ve serialized in so far. (Young Manga,, Jump, Ace)

Perico, an artist and mangaka of the series ‘The story of a junior who has a strong push’ and ‘15 minutes before serious dating’ had the following to say about the issue.

“Editorial department, let me take a break” is something that is said very often but basically, the writer doesn’t want to take a break more than anyone else (to maintain popularity or to increase sales), so it’s a difficult problem ... 🧐

Debata Yudai, mangaka of Futari Solo Camp, had the following to say about the issue.

There is also the problem where it is the writer’s ego that makes then devote extra work.

There are many cases where people who really want to do the parts that can be left to others or who want to do extra comics for volumes that are just doing it without being told.

That’s why there are many cases where there is no bonus manga or manuscript fee. Because this issue cannot be managed with a single solution.
