Connection Between Fire Force And Soul Eater Revealed
In the manga's closing chapters, Fire Force officially established a connection to the creator Atsushi Ōkubo's other work Soul Eater, which had been suspected for a long time by followers of both franchises.
Warning: Manga Spoilers Ahead
Excalibur, a legendary (and perhaps annoying) character from the Soul Eater universe, made an appearance in the penultimate chapter, which also established the introduction of the first witch. With Excalibur being over 800 years old, Fire Force is confirmed to be a prequel narrative that takes place before the time of Death Weapon Meister Academy.
After the great Cataclysm is ended in Fire Force, the epilogue shows Shinra Kusakabe in charge of a world outside of Tokyo, which would later become the major setting of Soul Eater. The hero sees the new world he created at the end of the cataclysm after becoming Death itself, and a sizzle reel follows, portraying the Soul Eater heroes (Maka, Soul, Death the Kid, and Black Star) as small children.
The planet was reborn when the Holy Sol religion was erased, but Shinra realized humanity needed something to tether to. As a result, rather than clinging to life, the hero latched onto death. This small change clears the path for Soul Eater to come through.
People may not explode into flames in this new world, but Soul Resonance and witches become the norm, as corruption will occur in any reality. Shinra is well aware of this, but his part of the battle ends with the cataclysm. The rest will go to Maka and her Death Meister Academy teammates as they uncover another worldwide threat down the road.
Previous Easter Eggs
Among the many well-known Soul Eater characters, Death and Excalibur appear as masks in the opening episode of Fire Force's second season. The Arthurian legend of Excalibur is referenced in both series, with Company 8's Arthur wielding a plasma blade of the same name.
Soul Eater’s grinning moon also makes an appearance while Haumea of the White-Clad has a prophetic vision in which the Evangelist's "new sun" will cause the Tokyo Empire to "become as it should be". The second season shows the world's boundaries expanding with the Adolla realm and spatial rifts. It's not just an anime-only scene either; the Soul Eater moon appears in the Fire Force manga as well.
Soul Eater fans are delighted by the cameos and overall connection that the series has with Fire Force. The recent revelations have put a lot of spotlight back on Soul Eater, and many fans are hoping that this can prompt the industry to consider rebooting the franchise, as the anime for Soul Eater ended before the manga did, and anime fans were deprived of seeing the real conclusion on-screen.
